Somalia979 Archivesone of the seven countries President Trump placed under a U.S. immigration ban recently.
So just imagine the grimaces when the newly-appointed President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, received a "Make Somalia Great Again" hat from the U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Stephen Schwartz.

Seems kind of inappropriate, what with the travel ban and all.

President Farmajo spent more than 20 years of his life in America. He himself sought asylum in 1988 while working at the Somali embassy in Washington D.C. His last job in the U.S. was Commissioner for Equal Employment at the New York State Department of Transportation.
Now president, Farmajo told Voice of Americarecently he'd try and change Trump's mind on the immigration ban.
"It is part of my responsibility to talk about this issue with the U.S. government by conveying our message to the president and his government that the Somali people are really good, hard working people," Farmajo told the news outlet.
"They raise their families in the United States. So we will see if he can change that policy and exclude Somalis from that list."
While President Farmajo was diplomatic in his receipt of the hat, others on Twitter were taken aback by the awkward (to say the least) gift.

There was no discussion about the questionable hat between the president and the U.S. ambassador, however. Just a chat about security and drought in the country.
