It hasn't been the most pleasant year for those behind the reboot of Japanese anime classic,Watch Exotic Forbidden Pleasures Online Ghost In The Shell.
The upcoming film's been dogged by criticisms of whitewashing ever since it was announced Scarlett Johansson would play the lead role of Major Motoko Kusanagi -- a clearly very Japanese character.
And it seems the disappointments won't end. This one's thanks to Steve Aoki.
SEE ALSO: 'Logan' is dark, desperate and violent — and critics love itThe DJ's turned his hand to creating the 1995 film's unofficial theme song, played during the intro. In short, it's the remix nobody asked for. Here's the original by composer Kenji Kawai, for reference.
Once serene and foreboding, the original song has been butchered to an inch of its life thanks to Aoki's brostep stylings. RIP headphone users.
"This is a big day for me," Aoki said in a Facebook post. "Especially for teenage youth me when I first watched the anime Ghost In The Shellthat planted the seeds for my imagination and obsession for sci fi android life AI singularity and later the blueprints towards my Neon Future ideology."
"So yes this is a big day and a proud moment to team up with GITSto produce the official remix to Utai IV -- "Reawakening" and have it scored in the commercial."
Tell that to the many, many annoyed fans.

In promising news, the new film's score has been written by English composer Clint Mansell.
Mansell is behind the soundtrack to Requiem For A Dreamand Black Swan, but also recently penned the score for the Black Mirror episode"San Junipero." So there's hope yet.
