Am I surprised that a bunch of Republican congressman endorsed arming toddlers?Watch Erotica Manila Episode 4 No. But, as usual, I wish I had higher expectations.
Sacha Baron Cohen's new show, Who Is America?, began streaming Saturday night before its official premiere on Sunday. As you probably already know thanks to Sarah Palin's extensive complaining, it's classic Cohen fare -- the comedian has been interviewing U.S. politicians and lobbyists while wearing disguises for the past year.
In a portion of the first episode, Cohen assumes the persona of Erran Morrad, an "Israeli anti-terrorism expert" pushing a program called Kinderguardians, which would train children as young as three how to use firearms.
He interviews two gun rights activists, Philip van Cleave and Larry Pratt, who both endorse the program. Van Cleave even helps record a truly unhinged promotional video, which features "Gunny Rabbit" and "Puppy Pistol" -- fake gun products designed for toddlers.
It only gets worse from there. Cohen then gets several current and former members of Congress to endorse the program, including Dana Rohrabacher, Joe Wilson, Joe Walsh, and former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott. "It's something we should think about it America -- about putting guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens, good guys, whether they be teachers, or whether they actually be ... highly trained preschoolers."
"A 3-year-old cannot defend itself from an assault rifle by throwing a Hello Kitty pencil case at it," Wilson says. "Our founding fathers did not put an age limit on the second amendment."
Only Rep. Matt Gaetz (who implied just last week that the Ohio State University wrestling abuse scandal was invented by the "deep state," so don't hold your breath about his integrity) appeared to show any trepidation. "Typically, members of Congress don't hear a story about a program and then indicate whether they support it or not," he said. Of course, Lott endorses it in the clip immediately following, so jury's out on that one.
